Snowflake (SNOW.N), a cloud data analytics business, is teaming with Nvidia (NVDA.O) to let finance, healthcare, and retail customers construct AI models using their data.
Snowflake Summit 2023 announced the partnership.
“In the old days, in small data computing, you moved data to the computer,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told Reuters. “But when you have giant amounts of data like Snowflake does, and the pile of proprietary data…data that’s so valuable to a company, then you move the compute to the data.”
Huang said incorporating its NeMo platform for training and operating generative AI models inside the Snowflake Data Cloud is “fairly engineering intensive” for Nvidia.
Chatbot ChatGPT has driven many organizations to develop AI strategies and helped Nvidia become a trillion-dollar corporation that makes AI hardware.
“This matters. “This is the last mile we’ve been waiting for 40 years,” said Snowflake Chairman and CEO Frank Slootman. “Every industry’s on this. Software used to consume the globe. “Data is eating software,” he remarked.
Slootman said Snowflake users can now leverage their data to train new AI models to obtain a competitive edge without sacrificing control.
Huang said Nvidia would benefit as more clients use AI computing.
We sell more chips and have an AI operating system, Nvidia AI Enterprise. “That operating system lets our chips process AI,” Huang stated. Nvidia AI Enterprise costs customers.
