On Monday, state media KCNA announced that North Korea’s governing party would convene in early June to discuss economic plans.
The newspaper stated the summit would assess the first half of 2023’s national economic goals and address “policy issues of weighty significance” in the revolution’s growth.
It will be the WPK’s 8th Plenary Meeting.
In February, the latest plenary conference discussed rebuilding the economy and agriculture amid food scarcity fears.
North Korea called recent U.S.-South Korean military drills “dangerous war gambles” in a separate commentary broadcast by KCNA on Monday.
“It is no exaggeration to say that the war scenario for aggression on the DPRK has already entered its implementation stage through training stage,” the commentary said.
The two nations began their first joint military exercises since 2017 on Thursday, drawing criticism.
Thursday’s Combined Joint Live-Fire Exercise involved 2,500 troops from 71 units and 600 military assets mobilized by the allies 25 kilometers (16 miles) south of the inter-Korean border to demonstrate their military capability amid North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.
