On Saturday, North Korea’s official media claimed another nuclear-capable undersea assault drone test.
North Korea tested a nuclear-capable unmanned underwater assault weapon named “Haeil-2” from April 4 to 7, state media stated, a week after revealing a new underwater drone called “Haeil-1,” which translates as a tsunami.
The drone sailed 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) for 71 hours and 6 minutes and hit a simulated target during the underwater strategic weapon system test, according to KCNA.
“The test completely verified the dependability of the undersea strategic weapon system and its lethal attack potential,” KCNA added.
KCNA reported the undersea vehicle would assist in constraining military action against North Korea, but analysts doubt its readiness.
State media revealed photos of a big, dark-colored torpedo-shaped item and its undersea course and blasted on the sea.
In reaction to U.S.-South Korean military drills, North Korea has increased its weapon tests.
It just launched an intercontinental ballistic missile and displayed miniaturized nuclear warheads.
