You should be careful what you say, and that goes double for what you tweet. PayPal, the payment system that has become synonymous with Ebay, has released a newly acquired strategy executive. Rakesh Agrawal used twitter to spew disrespectful messages, some of which were directed at his employers. Since their time of publication the tweets have been removed. According to those with copies of the alleged messages however, one of the tweets stated “Duck you Smedley, you useless middle manager.” This is referring to Christina Smedley, PayPal’s vice president of global communications.
In a public statement PayPal said, “”Rakesh Agrawal is no longer with the company, treat everyone with respect. No excuses. PayPal has zero tolerance.” We have all been warned about the consequences of our online profiles. We’re warned about the pictures we take and the statements we share. For whatever reason Agrawal couldn’t keep his opinions to himself. He has not been the only person who’s been fired for posting ugly remarks online and he will not be the last. Hopefully reading stories like this will persuade people to pause for a moment before they hit the send button. Take a second to ponder the consequences of your post. Your future could depend on it.
