Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu called British plans to deliver depleted uranium munitions to Ukraine a “nuclear collision” with the West on Tuesday.
Secretary of State for Defence Annabel Goldie stated on Monday in London that Britain supplies Ukraine with Challenger 2 battle tanks armed with depleted uranium armor-piercing ammunition.
According to state media, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told reporters, “Another step has been taken, and there are less and fewer.”
He replied: “Steps were intentional. Reduced.”
Because of its density and other properties, depleted uranium may breach tanks and armor, Goldie said.
Dust around impact sites might enter the lungs and vital organs.
“Naturally, Russia has something to reply with,” Shoigu told reporters about weapons.
The “Yugoslavia scenario” idea was criticized by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who said the munitions damaged the environment and caused cancer.
