At least 51 people were injured as a result of Russia’s second missile attack on Kyiv this week, according to Ukrainian officials, who announced on Wednesday. Additionally, residences and a children’s hospital were destroyed. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of Ukraine asked in Washington for additional assistance for his nation.

At about three in the morning (0100 GMT), Ukraine’s air defense systems could intercept and destroy all ten ballistic missiles aimed toward the capital city, according to a statement released by the Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram.

According to officials, falling debris caused injuries and devastation in four of Kyiv’s districts along the Dnipro River, which runs through the city and cuts through the capital.

According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram, debris damaged windows and doors at a children’s hospital in the Dniprovskyi neighborhood of Kyiv, but preliminary assessments indicate no injuries.

Several residential structures in the Dniprovskyi area were also struck by debris, resulting in the injuries of at least 51 individuals, including six children, according to Serhiy Popko, the head of the military administration in Kyiv, who announced this on Telegram. Alterations were also made to the water supply in the area.

At the time of the strike, neither the quantity nor the type of missiles Russia employed were immediately known. Four people were injured as a result of the incident, which came after a barrage of ballistic missiles that had been fired into Kyiv early on Monday morning.

Joe Biden, the United States Vice President, warned Republicans on Tuesday, stating that they would give Russia a “Christmas gift” if they did not offer more excellent military assistance to Zelenskiy. Zelenskiy’s meeting with a prominent politician in the United States ended without a pledge for extra help.

The Russian government did not state the incident on Wednesday. The strike also caused damage to buildings in the districts of Desnyanskyi, Darnitskyi, and Holosiivskyi in Kyiv.

During the nearly 22-month-long conflict that Russia began against its neighbor in February 2022, both Moscow and Kyiv have denied that they targeted civilians.

The Air Force also claimed that it was successful in shooting down all ten attack drones that were fired from Russia over the Odesa area in the southern part of Ukraine.

After debris struck a structure and neighboring automobiles, starting a fire, Popko stated that seventeen people, including seven children, were evacuated from a residential building in the Dniprovskyi neighborhood. Some of the people who were evacuated included children.

In addition, he mentioned that the blast wave’s destruction of windows led to the most injuries. As Popko stated, “There are many injured,” he was implying that the number of those who were hurt would increase.
