Danish politician Jakob Ellemann-Jensen was born on September 25, 1973. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense since 2022. He’s led Venstre since 2019.
He has been a Folketing member since the 2011 general election, and from 2 May 2018 until 27 June 2019, he served as the prime minister’s minister of the environment and food.
He served as Venstre’s political affairs spokesperson from 2015 until 2018 and once more for a brief period in 2019.
Ellemann-Jensen graduated from N. Zahle’s in 1992. He earned his BSc in 1999 and MSc in 2002 at Copenhagen Business School. He was a legal adviser for PwC from 2000 to 2002 and a lawyer at IBM Denmark from 2002 to 2005, where he headed the contract and negotiation department. Corporate counsel for GN Store Nord from 2007 until 2011.
On Friday, the Danish defense minister, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, told the broadcaster DR that Denmark is “open” to sending fighter planes to Ukraine to assist in battling the Russian incursion.
“At some point it may be essential to look at the participation of fighter planes,” interim Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated.
According to the armed services, Denmark bought 77 F-16 airplanes during the 1970s. Local media reports 30 are in operation.
Ukraine has this year asked Western allies for more advanced weapons, including fighter jets.
Western countries that have provided Ukraine with arms have refused to send fighter jets or long-range weapons capable of striking deep inside Russia.
