Prince Harry will attend his father, King Charles’ Coronation next month without Meghan, the pair announced on Wednesday, ending months of uncertainty.
Foreign dignitaries and state leaders will crown Charles in a 1,000-year-old tradition. After the 38-year-old harshly criticized his family in a book and video series, his youngest son’s involvement seemed uncertain.
According to Buckingham Palace and the couple’s spokesman, Harry, the Duke of Sussex, will attend the May 6 celebration while Meghan stays in California with their two young children.
Archie, their oldest, turns four on the same day.
“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey,” the statement stated.
“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Harry and Meghan left royal responsibilities in 2020 and relocated to California to start a new, independent life away from the British press.
They agreed with the royal family not to participate in any future official royal events or tours. They have only returned to Britain a few times since they left, notably for Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year funeral.
