According to a statement made on Wednesday by the Malaysian carmaker DRB Hicom and the Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd, the creation of an automotive center in Malaysia has been agreed upon.

Anwar Ibrahim, the prime minister of Malaysia, said in July that Geely will spend $10 billion to build an auto manufacturing cluster in the western Malaysian town of Tanjung Malim.

“The (agreement) sets forth the underlying principles, governance framework, and mutual commitment of the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley project,” the DRB stated. According to the corporation, the project will concentrate on producing autos, high-tech parts, and components for new energy vehicles, and it anticipates attracting investment from domestic and international businesses.

Geely also has a 49.9% interest in Malaysian automaker Proton, while DRB holds the bulk of the company.

Conversely, DRB-Hicom controls a large portion of the Malaysian market. They are in a good position to use Geely’s global knowledge and grow their local operations because they have a lengthy history in the country and a good reputation for automobile manufacturing.

The deal between DRB-Hicom and Geely is anticipated to affect aspects of the Malaysian automotive market following some of the main points:

  • Through this partnership, Malaysia will receive cutting-edge automotive innovations. Geely’s creative R&D endeavors will enable DRB-Hicom to create cars that adhere to the highest international standards.
  • With a large increase in production capacity, DRB-Hicom will be better able to fulfill domestic and worldwide demand for vehicles.
  • The collaboration is anticipated to result in the development of a wider variety of vehicles. Customers in Malaysia may anticipate a wider range of vehicles, from powerful SUVs to environmentally friendly electric automobiles.
  • The agreement will also strengthen the local employment market and aid Malaysia’s economic development due to the increase in manufacturing.

Rival Malaysian automakers will surely feel the effects of this arrangement. The partnership between DRB-Hicom and Geely will establish a new standard for the sector and pressure other businesses to develop and maintain their competitiveness.

The alliance between DRB-Hicom and Geely has the potential to revolutionize the Malaysian car industry. This partnership possesses the potential to strengthen Malaysia’s position in the international automotive sector thanks to innovative technology, greater manufacturing capacity, a diverse vehicle lineup, and favorable economic effects. Thanks to this ground-breaking deal, Malaysia’s car manufacturing industry appears to have a brighter future than ever.
