Lindsay Lohan has seen her fair share of the inside of court rooms. The dwindling star, best known for “Mean Girls,” has had trouble with sobriety and the law for much of her adult life. But this time it is Lohan who is doing the finger pointing. Lohan has recently filed lawsuits against the “Grand Theft Auto” makers, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive Software, claiming the gaming companies stole her likeness.
Lindsay claims that the popular video game features a minor character, Lacey Jonas, who bares an extreme resemblance to her own image. The lawsuit also claims the game features the Chateau Marmont hotel, where Lohan temporarily made residence while living in West Hollywood. In addition, there is a side mission in which the gamer must help Lacey outrun the paparazzi. The lawsuit goes as far as to claim that even Lohan’s voice and clothing line are recognizable during gameplay.
Lohan is not the first celebrity to go after the popular GTA franchise. Earlier this year, VH1’s “Mob Wives” star, Karen Gravano, sued the game makers for using her likeness and life story as a basis for another of the game’s minor characters. That suit is still pending, as Rockstar believes that works based in fiction and satire, like GTA, are protected from these claims lobbied against them.
“Grand Theft Auto V” made $1 billion in its first three days after release. The series has become a staple in many video game collections. The game is unapologetic winner, despite controversy surrounding the violent and misogynist gameplay.
Whether Lohan will be a winner is yet to be seen. Even if the allegations are true, it is a hard case to make.
