Johnson & Johnson and DePuy Orthopedics were ordered by a federal court in Texas to pay six plaintiffs a total of $1 billion this Thursday after losing a lawsuit involving their Pinnacle metal-on-metal hip implants.
The plaintiffs complained that Johnson & Johnson and DePuy promoted the implants to be longer lasting than most plastic or ceramic competitors. The six victims also said they not only experienced bone erosion but tissue death and other related injuries from the implants.
The six plaintiffs aren’t the only ones who claim that Johnson & Johnson and DePuy failed to warn them of the risks involving the metal implants. Over 8,400 similar lawsuit cases have been filed against the companies and have yet to be settled in court. Both Johnson & Johnson and DePuy are said to be performing tests on the Pinnacle implants. This will better help determine the outcome of the other court cases.
