Kevin Love has chosen to forego playing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain this year largely because his next landing place in the NBA is still undetermined. The three-time All-Star is a major cog in a possible deal that could bring Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers by sending #1 pick Andrew Wiggins to Minnesota. Some NBA experts claim that the combination of Kevin Love, two-time champion Lebron James and 2014 All-Star Game MVP Kyrie Irving would make the Cavaliers the favorite to represent the East in the NBA Finals.
Love is not the only NBA player to pass on this year’s team FIBA USA roster. Blake Griffin recently announced that he will not play in the Basketball World Cup in order to focus on sharpening his skills for the Clippers this season. Portland center LaMarcus Aldridge has also declined the invitation.
Kevin Love is a highly coveted Minnesota Timberwolves power forward that averaged 36 minutes per game and 26.1 points per game this past season. He shot 45.7 percent from the field.
The other key player of the potential deal, Andrew Wiggins, recently signed a rookie contract with Cleveland Cavaliers, but that agreement protects him from being dealt in a trade for only one calendar month. The Basketball World Cup is set to begin its exhibition games in August.
