Calling all Scandal fans! It looks like even us commoners can have a little taste of Olivia Pope’s wardrobe. Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia Pope on ABC’s hit political drama, Scandal has teamed up with the show’s costume designer, Lyn Paolo and head of design at The Limited, Elliot Staples to create a collection of Pope inspired pieces. The 42-piece collection is inspired by the character’s endless white outerwear options, flattering wide leg pants, and work-friendly blouses.
In a press release according to US Magazine, Washington says the line “embodies the elegance and power of the Scandal aesthetic for real-life gladiators and everyday fashionistas.” Looks like the average women is getting a real upgrade to her work wardrobe.
Washington spoke with Women’s Wear Daily in an interview and remarked on the universal affordability of the collection: “People who love the look of the show can now step into this world in a way that is affordable and accessible because not everybody can afford to have the clothes they see on the show.”
The Emmy-nominated star, who is the only one who truly knows how to embody Pope’s flair and style, told WWD that she very much enjoyed being a part of the development of the line. She said: “It’s been really fun to have a voice at every stage of the production from picking buttons, choosing fabrics and weighing in on hair and makeup people.”
Diane Ellis, chief executive officer of the label told WWD remarks on Pope’s fit with the brand: “Her character represents a confident, powerful, but real and kind of vulnerable woman. Our sophisticated professional can really relate to that. She’s dealing with crisis, scandal and a life that is very complex and challenging, not maybe to the extant as Olivia. I don’t think our typical client is having a relationship with the president. But she’s dealing with her own version of complexity and juggling a young family at home and perhaps a career. The appeal is at the same time she always looks fabulous.”
Price points for the pieces fall between $49 and $248. The collection will be available in 250 Limited stores and on the company’s website this September.
