James Bond Buzz: Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Name in the Mix Once More

Speculation regarding the next actor to portray James Bond has resurfaced, with reports suggesting that British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been offered the role. The Sun reported that Taylor-Johnson, known for his roles in Kick-Ass and Marvel films, has been formally offered the iconic 007 spy character, previously portrayed by Daniel Craig.

Craig departed from the role in 2021 after starring in five films spanning 16 years. The upcoming Bond film will mark the 26th installment in the franchise, following “No Time to Die.” While Eon Productions, the company behind the Bond films, refrains from commenting on speculation, a production insider informed BBC News that there is “no truth in the rumours.”

Speculation about the next Bond actor has been ongoing for some time, with Taylor-Johnson acknowledging the rumors in a recent interview with Numero magazine, stating that he finds it “charming and wonderful” to be considered for the role.

The 33-year-old actor, known for his role as John Lennon in the biopic “Nowhere Boy,” has emerged as a favorite among bookmakers to play Bond. His diverse filmography includes roles in “Nocturnal Animals,” “Anna Karenina,” “Godzilla,” and “Tenet.”

Other actors rumored to be in contention for the role include Henry Cavill, known for his roles in “Superman” and “Mission: Impossible,” and Damson Idris, best known for his role in the TV crime drama “Snowfall” and Netflix’s “Outside the Wire.”

James Norton, recognized for his roles in “McMafia” and “Happy Valley,” is also a favorite among bookies. However, Norton previously dismissed rumors of being the next Bond, emphasizing that it was merely speculation.

While several names, including Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Chris Evans, have been mentioned, producers often prioritize factors beyond celebrity status when selecting the next Bond. Pierce Brosnan suggested Cillian Murphy as a potential candidate, while also praising Regé-Jean Page from “Bridgerton” as a suitable choice for the role.
