The Times of Israel claimed Friday that Viktor Orban would support Benjamin Netanyahu by transferring Hungary’s embassy to Jerusalem next month.
Hungary would open the first EU embassy in Jerusalem, which Israel claims as its capital but which other states do not recognize and whose status under international law is disputed.
Hungarian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mate Paczolay did not confirm the accusation but said the government would always inform the embassy.
“We moved our Israeli Embassy’s commercial department to Jerusalem years ago,” he told Reuters. “Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched the foreign trade representation.”
Israeli foreign ministry spokesman declined to comment.
Trump moved the American embassy to Jerusalem in 2018.
The Israeli parliament pronounced Jerusalem “complete and united” in 1980. The UN will consider East Jerusalem occupied unless Israel and the Palestinians agree.
