According to Prime Minister Viktor Orban on public radio on Friday, Hungary would not permit any protests in support of “terrorist organizations.” He also said that all Hungarian residents should feel protected, regardless of their religion or nationality.

In retaliation for the bloodiest attack on Jewish people since the Holocaust, which occurred on Saturday when hundreds of Hamas gunmen burst over the barrier wire and rampaged through Israeli cities, Israel has pledged to completely destroy the Hamas movement that controls the Gaza Strip.

Israel, the United States, the European Union, Canada, Egypt, and Japan have all recognized Hamas as a terrorist organization.

Orban remarked, referring to the effects of the Hamas attack on Israel on Europe, “It is shocking that there are sympathy rallies supporting the terrorists across Europe.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s supporter and nationalist Viktor Orban said that Israel had a right to self-defense but stressed the need to prevent the war from spreading to other nations and destabilizing the whole region.

Khaled Meshaal, a former leader of Hamas, urged Muslims worldwide to demonstrate on Friday in solidarity of the Palestinians and to join the struggle against Israel.

On Facebook, a demonstration in favor of Palestine was scheduled for 1400 GMT outside the Hungarian Foreign Ministry in Budapest.

Without specifically mentioning the scheduled event, Orban added, “There have even been efforts in Hungary. “But we will not allow sympathy rallies supporting terrorist organisations as that would entail a terror threat to Hungarian citizens.”

“We cannot allow any Hungarians, regardless of their faith or origin to feel unsafe,” Orban stated.
