Everyone would dream to have a Hermes Birkin Bag, but at $222,000 that is a bit difficult to achieve; not for Hong Kong auctioneer who purchased a diamond embedded fuschia Birkin Bag for just that price.
In Hong Kong on Monday June 1, the Christie’s handbag auction was equipped with top notch one-of-a-kind designer bags, one being a Hermes Birkin bag with fuchsia crocodile print and accents, including a small lock covered in diamonds.
An unnamed bidder set records by bidding a whopping 1.72 million Hong Kong dollars ($220,00) on the featured Birkin bag.
Past record holder purchased their red Birkin bag, equipped with diamonds as well, for $203,150 at Heritage Auctions in New York back in 2011. At the Christie’s auction in particular the last record was held by a bidder of an Elizabeth Taylor diamond and gold handbag for $218,500, though at the time it was under the jewelry category.
Yet, this Birkin is still not the most expensive one out there. On the 1stDibs website is listed a Hermes Birkin for $450,000. This handbag is only 30cm, made of Himalayan Niloticus crocodile and of course a 18k white gold lock to complete the look surrounded by white diamonds totaling 1.64 carats.
Let us just say whoever picks that one up at the next auction is one lucky gal. As for the new owner of the Hermes Birkin sold at this auction, they are sure to be ecstatic with their next delivery.
The bag is said to be on delivery now by a Brink’s truck.
