Decades after the world’s premiere rock band fell apart, Beatlemania seems to be going just as strong as ever. A personal guitar of George Harrison recently went to auction and fetched an astonishing $657,000 at Julien’s Auctions House. Harrison died in 2001 at the age of 58. He played the famous guitar on the British TV show Ready, Stead, Go! in 1963. The guitar was also used in the recordings of “I want to hold your hand” and “This Boy” in October of 1963.
Before auction Julien’s estimated the historic guitar would sell for between $400,000 and $600,000. Other Beatles related merchandise at the auction included doodle drawings by John Lennon and Yoko Ono that sold for $187,000. A Hofner bass rented by Paul McCartney also sold at the auction for $125,000. Though it doesn’t seem that the auction winner’s names were released, it is fair to assume that they are some of the world’s biggest Beatles fans. As it turns out, King Midas is not the only one who turns everything he touches into gold, rockstars can do it too.
