Although nothing is certain yet, Google has made some enacted some movement in attempts to purchase the company Twitch. Twitch is a service that provides gamers with the ability to stream their “game play”. Twitch has over a million broadcasters participating per month.
Twitch first took off in Jun. 2011. Twich is a streaming service, and thereby it is important because it gives gamers the ability to broadcast their plays. This is popular amongst gamers since it instructs new players on how the game works. Obviously, gamers are also eager to show off their abilities. Twitch is already integrated into PlayStation 4 as well as Xbox One.
Qwilt’s vice president of business development, Mark Fisher, has stated that Twitch’s expanding audience spends much of their time participating in sharing and watching live gaming. Moreover, this is precisely why advertisers have grown so intrigued by the company. Fisher further pointed out how YouTube simply doesn’t have the same “engagement” that Twitch has, and that this quality is “what drives advertising.”
According to a report in Variety, Google’s YouTube sect is willing to pay over $1 billion dollars and sources involved in the transaction claim that this deal has been agreed upon.
Nonetheless, the Wall Street Journal claims that such talks are premature. Apparently, Twitch has also contemplated an alternative route of selling a stake in the company.
Google’s pursuit of Twitch is fueled by its capacity to enhance YouTube, according to the Wall Street Journal. Further, Twitch produces more live streaming video traffic than any other website to date.
Fisher has also commented on how Twitch has seemingly come out of nowhere, only entering these companies’ radars last year.
