Protesters stopped committee sessions Thursday over the ruling party’s “foreign agents” proposal, which they called tyrannical.

That worries the US. The rule would undermine democracy and free expression, State Department spokeswoman Heather Price said Thursday.

Price told reporters it would stigmatize and discourage independent voices and Georgians dedicated to improving their nation and communities.
