Gaza Hospital Raid Intensifies Humanitarian Crisis Amid Israeli Forces’ Actions
In the early hours of Monday, Israeli forces conducted a raid on Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, alleging that it was being used as a base of operations by Hamas militants. As a result of the operation, a fire broke out at the hospital entrance, leading to suffocation among women and children, as reported by Gaza’s health ministry. According to Israeli media reports, the military assumed control of the hospital premises and detained approximately 80 individuals.
Chief military spokesperson Daniel Hagari described the operation as “high-precision” and emphasized that it was carried out based on “concrete” intelligence regarding activities within the medical facility.
This raid occurred amid dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza. On the preceding Sunday, hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza City awaited food aid. The situation is particularly dire in northern Gaza, which has suffered extensive devastation and has been largely cut off by Israeli forces since October.
Despite directives to evacuate, it is estimated that around 300,000 Palestinians have remained in the north, with reports emerging of some resorting to consuming animal feed in recent weeks. Aid organizations have encountered significant obstacles in delivering assistance due to Israeli-imposed restrictions, ongoing hostilities, and a breakdown of order.
In diplomatic engagements, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held meetings with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. Scholz reiterated Germany’s steadfast support for Israel amidst escalating tensions in the region.
