On Saturday, G7 leaders called for worldwide technological standards for trustworthy AI.

In Hiroshima, Japan, G7 leaders noted that “the common vision and goal of trustworthy AI may vary.” Still, they emphasized that “the governance of the digital economy should continue to be updated in line with our shared democratic values.”
THIS MONTH, the G7’s European Union took a step toward the first global AI law.

“We want AI systems to be accurate, reliable, safe and non-discriminatory, regardless of their origin,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Friday.

The ChatGPT app popularized generative AI, which the G7 leaders “need to immediately take stock of the opportunities and challenges of generative AI.”

The “Hiroshima AI process” ministerial summit will examine generative AI issues such as intellectual property rights and disinformation by the end of the year, government leaders decided on Friday.

The G7 digital ministers agreed on “risk-based” AI legislation last month.
