French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne’s office announced she would meet with opposition leaders and trade unions to address weeks of demonstrations against a new pension law.

Once the government passed the pension reform without congressional approval, violent demonstrations erupted.

President Emmanuel Macron instructed his prime minister to recruit new parliament support after the plan failed to pass.

Her office said Borne would meet with political party leaders and continue labor discussions with unions without discussing the pension proposal.

The prime minister told AFP that opposition and union leaders would meet on April 3.

AFP said she would only use constitutional authority to enact budget legislation without a vote.

Protesters are upset that the pension law was passed without a vote.

Unions are planning Tuesday’s 10th nationwide pension legislation protest after Thursday’s most violent police clashes.

Last Thursday, CFDT union president Laurent Berger urged Macron to postpone the law for six months to find a solution.
