FreeWavz, a new company, is adding another device into the market that measures users’ fitness levels.
FreeWavz founder Eric Hensen, who is also an ear, nose and throat doctor, said the wireless earphones are fitted with “medical-grade pulse oximeters and accelerometers” that collect data to help users stay healthy. The device is able to monitor basic features, like heart rate, calories burned and distance traveled, as well as oxygen saturation.
The company is still crowdfunding to launch the product. It is at about $135,500 now with a goal of $300,000. It seems, though, they may have a difficult time meeting their goal with just two weeks left, so the startup has enlisted some athletes to help increase awareness.
Tennis player Adrian Menendez-Maceiras voiced his support for the project, saying, “Training for the ATP Tour is rigorous. FreeWavz keeps me mentally focused and inspired to work through long sets of training on and off the court. No wires to limit my range of motion, they fit perfectly and I get the biofeedback I need to maximize my physical efficiency. I can just focus on preparing for the next tournament with an intensity that makes me feel Unstoppable.”
Sara Hall, Pan American Gold Medalist runner, also had great things to say about the product.
“For me, finding an earphone that is both wire-free and has a secure fit is really important and FreeWavz has a fit unlike any other I’ve tired. Plus, you have both your music and fitness information being delivered to you audibly so you can continue your workout and stay focused without any distractions. They are so lightweight they allow us to Go the Distance!” Hall said.
