As he arrived in Israel on Tuesday, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, gave a speech in which he promised Israel would not be left alone in its battle against Islamist extremists. Still, he also warned against the dangers of a confrontation in the region.

After meeting with the families of French casualties at the airport in Tel Aviv, Macron went to Jerusalem to tell President Isaac Herzog that France stood “shoulder to shoulder” with Israel and that the first goal should be to liberate captives in Gaza. This discussion occurred after Macron met with the relatives of French fatalities at the airport in Tel Aviv.

“I want you to be sure that you’re not left alone in this war against terrorism,” French President Macron stated. “It is our duty to fight against terrorism without any confusion and without enlarging this conflict.”

The advisors to Macron stated that beyond displaying sympathy with Israel, Macron wants to offer “proposals that are as operational as possible” to avert an escalation, liberate hostages, assure Israel’s security, and work toward a two-state solution. This was stated in addition to Macron’s desire to demonstrate support for Israel.

An adviser to Macron indicated that there were things that could be done so that Israel would not feel alone in its battle against terrorism, but he declined to expand on what these recommendations may be. He emphasized that there were things that could be done.

It is vital to highlight that while France expresses its sympathy with Israel, it, along with many other nations, favors a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem that involves the coexistence of two states. In the past, Macron has underlined the need to maintain conversation and participate in discussions to establish sustainable peace in the area. This exemplifies France’s dedication to maintaining a level-headed attitude while working to advance peace and security in the Middle East.

In conclusion, President Macron’s declaration of support for Israel’s fight against terrorism is evidence of the threat that terrorism poses on a global scale and the need for coordinated actions among states. France’s lengthy history, commitment to the fight against terrorism, and close ties to Israel are just a few factors that impact this declaration. This serves as a useful reminder of the joint duty that nations have to handle the multifaceted problem of terrorism and to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond.
