The defense minister of France stated in remarks released on Monday that discussions are underway to create a military medical center in the neighboring Gaza Strip. The facility would provide surgical capabilities for badly injured soldiers.

Later this week, in an attempt to coordinate international assistance for the Israeli-occupied Palestinian enclave, Paris will play host to an international humanitarian conference for the civilian population in Gaza.

The Israeli Defense Forces announced on Monday that in the previous 24 hours, Israeli fighter planes had targeted 450 Hamas targets in Gaza, and forces had taken control of a terrorist facility. However, the health ministry of the Palestinian enclave said that several people had died as a result of the airstrikes.

In an interview with Lebanon’s L’Orient le Jour newspaper, Sebastien Lecornu stated, “There are also still discussions with Egypt in order to preposition a French military health offering on the ground, particularly providing surgery for war injuries.”

To care for those fleeing the conflict, Egypt has set up a makeshift hospital in Sheikh Zuweid, which is 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the Rafah entrance into Gaza.

President Emmanuel Macron had stated that the Tonnerre helicopter carrier, which France has dispatched to the area, was intended to assist Gazan hospitals. According to military officials, it lacks the necessary medical supplies to treat victims of the bombs in the besieged region.

Still, modern medical facilities are being installed aboard a second helicopter ship by the French military. Within the following ten days, it is scheduled to sail to the area.

“The Dixmude helicopter carrier, which will be reinforced with medical capacities, will be sent soon to the zone to relieve the Tonnerre helicopter carrier,” Lecornu stated.

According to diplomats, the conference on November 9 in Paris would also examine the establishment of a maritime corridor to allow ships to transport humanitarian assistance into Gaza and investigate ways to deploy vessels to assist in evacuating injured people from Gaza.
