Twitch abruptly removed one of its top performers, Herschel “Guy” Beahm, also known as Dr Disrespect, in 2020 without explanation. Now, four years after Beahm was permanently banned, two former Twitch employees have come forward to recount the events that led to his expulsion from the network.

One former Twitch employee, who requested anonymity due to the risk to their job, told The Verge that Beahm used Whispers, Twitch’s now-defunct messaging system, to exchange messages with a youngster and establish a conversation about meeting up at TwitchCon. When the ban went into effect in 2020, the employee was a member of Twitch’s trust and safety team.

Their comments support a post by Cody Conners, a former Twitch employee who worked on the company’s strategic partnerships division. Late Friday, Conners wrote on X, “He was banned after being discovered sexting a kid in the then-existing Twitch whispers feature. He was hoping to meet up with her at TwitchCon. “The powers that be could read plain text.”
