Facebook and Instagram Outages Now Resolved
Meta has successfully resolved a “technical issue” that led to a widespread outage of its major platforms, including Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, affecting hundreds of thousands of users globally for about two hours on Tuesday. Users attempting to access the websites and apps encountered error messages and were unable to refresh their feeds during the disruption.
The outage impacted users in various countries, as reported by tracking website Downdetector. Meta, the parent company of these platforms, acknowledged the issue and extended an apology to those affected, emphasizing its swift resolution of the problem.
Meta’s platforms are among the most widely used globally, with Facebook boasting three billion active monthly users and Instagram projected to reach 1.4 billion users worldwide later this year. The outage also affected Threads, Meta’s platform introduced in 2023 as a rival to Twitter. Notably, WhatsApp, another Meta-owned platform, remained unaffected during this incident.
This isn’t the first time Meta has faced such widespread outages. In 2021, the company experienced a significant disruption lasting nearly six hours, prompting an apology from founder Mark Zuckerberg. During that outage, services including Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram were all affected.
