Ukraine has accused two Russian soldiers of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl and gang-raping her mother at gunpoint before her father as part of widespread abuse during the more than one-year invasion.
Reuters reported that Russian soldiers of the 15th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade perpetrated sex assaults in four Brovary area residences near Kyiv in March 2022.
Russia’s Defence Ministry declined to comment. When reached by Reuters, two officers at the Samara Garrison, of which the brigade is a part, claimed they could not provide unit contacts. One said they were classified.
After Moscow’s failed Feb. 24 invasion, soldiers invaded Brovary a few days later, stealing and using sexual violence to terrorize the populace, Ukrainian prosecutors said.
“They chose out the women beforehand, coordinated their acts and their responsibilities,” the prosecutors said in 2022 documents based on witness and survivor interviews.
“In a condition of intoxicated intoxication, troops broke into the yard of the house where a young family lived,” the prosecutors claimed.
The father was beaten with a metal saucepan and forced to kneel as his wife was gang-raped. The records alleged a soldier promised the four-year-old child he “would make her a woman” before abusing her.
Prosecutors are investigating additional crimes in the region, including murders, but the family survived.
Putin’s regime denies atrocities, claiming it fights Western-backed “neo-Nazis” in Ukraine. It denies that military commanders know about soldier sexual violence.
According to the archives, the snipers were 32 and 28 years old and had died, while Yevgeniy Chernoknizhniy returned to Russia.
Prosecutors only identified the younger soldier when Reuters requested their names.
“Died. He’s unreachable, “sobbing. I’m done.
He was unconfirmed by Reuters.
