According to sources, the $61 billion acquisition of VMware (VMW.N) by U.S. chipmaker Broadcom (AVGO.O) is expected to receive conditional EU antitrust approval.

People said Broadcom’s interoperability remedies to rivals to satisfy competition issues are connected to the European Commission’s clearance.

Broadcom and the EU antitrust watchdog, which will rule on the merger by July 17, declined to comment.

One of the solutions targets Marvell Technology’s Fibre Channel Host-Bus Adapters (FC HBAs). Marvell Technology did not respond to a request for comment.

FC HBAs connect servers to storage on a storage-area network via a switch using the fiber channel protocol. FC HBAs come from Broadcom.

Data centers employ Broadcom processors for networking and AI acceleration.
