On Friday, EU industry chief Thierry Breton reminded TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew that the Chinese-owned social network still needed to comply with EU rules.
“I told him that, as of now, there is still a lot of room for improvement, in terms of having more content moderation, avoiding excesses, guaranteeing a safe use of data, particularly the data of our children,” Breton told France 2 television.
Over security concerns, Britain, the US, and numerous EU countries have banned TikTok.
Last month, the EU identified 19 powerful online platforms, including TikTok, that will be subject to the Digital Services Act (DSA), new online content laws, starting in August.
Companies must manage risk, conduct external and independent audits, exchange data with authorities and academics, and implement a code of conduct.
Breton requested TikTok to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) months earlier.
