EU Electric Vehicle Probe Allegedly Biased Against China, Says Chinese Body

The bloc ignores its main electric car manufacturers and prepared to impose further levies on Chinese imports, claiming “economic injury”.

The EU will impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles next month, the latest move in a trade battle between Europe, the US, and China.

The bloc has proposed 38.1% tariffs. This adds to the 10% tariff.

The European Commission investigated whether China subsidized EV manufacture.

Europe has accused China of flooding the global market with cheap EVs that it cannot compete with for months.

The commission plans to examine the problem with Chinese officials, but duties will take effect on July 4 if negotiations fail.

The tariffs will hurt China’s top automakers including BYD, ‘Build Your Dream’, SAIC, and Geely.

The Commission’s tariff threat follows the US’s broader move last month.
