On Monday, an official of senior rank stated that the European Union and Japan had reached a point of “convergence” in their views about generative artificial intelligence (AI). Vera Jourova, Vice-President for Values and Transparency of the European Commission, stated in an interview with Reuters that she sees a lot of convergence in how we look at artificial intelligence and generative artificial intelligence.

According to a report by Reuters, the European Union (EU) is in the lead regarding the regulation of developing technology with its stringent AI Act. Japan is looking into more flexible restrictions than the group to stimulate economic growth.

The European Union and Japan are ramping up their collaboration on economically significant technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and chip design.

“I just got back from China, and let me tell you, it’s an entirely new experience. Jourova made her remarks on the margins of a Kyoto symposium devoted to internet governance. “I could discuss with our Japanese partners because we do not have to explain to each other basic, basic things,” Jourova added.

The Group of Seven industrial giants uses a mechanism created in Hiroshima to debate potential rules for generative artificial intelligence (AI). This technology has been welcomed with both enthusiasm and anxiety.

Jourova stated that more work has to be done on a code of conduct for businesses engaging in AI, although plans to open consultations on a framework for AI are proceeding as planned.
