On Friday, the European Commission said that it has asked Amazon for more details about the steps the American e-commerce behemoth had done to meet its Digital Services Act (DSA) requirements.
“In particular, Amazon is asked to provide detailed information on its compliance with the provisions concerning transparency of the recommender systems (…),” a statement issued by the EU said.
Amazon was told that the deadline for providing the needed information is July 26.
Big Tech companies are under increased pressure from the DST to remove dangerous and unlawful information from their websites.
Amazon said that it was examining the request from the EU.
“The European Commission and we are actively collaborating as we assess this request. According to an Amazon representative, the company’s purpose is the same as the European Commission’s: to provide a marketplace where customers can purchase with confidence.
