According to a regulatory filing, European Union (EU) antitrust regulators will determine by February 14 of next year whether to approve Amazon’s (AMZN.O) $1.4 billion acquisition of robot vacuum company iRobot (IRBT.O).

The EU’s competition enforcer put a temporary stop to its inquiry into the agreement in August to gather further evidence. December 13 was the prior cutoff date for its decision about the deal.

Amazon has already received warnings from the EU’s competition watchdog that the acquisition may lessen competition in the robot vacuum cleaner sector and strengthen the US company’s leading position as an online marketplace provider.

Amazon reduced the amount it will pay iRobot in July to around $1.42 billion following the company’s increased debt. iRobot is the manufacturer of Roomba vacuum cleaners.

The Amazon/iRobot agreement will have a significant impact on the market. If authorized, it may cause a substantial change in the robotics and e-commerce industries. The combination may change how customers use technology and shop.

Competing businesses in the robotics and e-commerce domains are keeping a careful eye on the circumstances. They can also consider tactical moves to stay competitive in this shifting environment.

In summary, the Amazon/iRobot partnership represents a turning point in business and can change the robotics and e-commerce sectors. Regulators in the European Union have extended the deal’s deadline in light of their worries about antitrust risks. The result of this combination will affect market dynamics and customer preferences more broadly, in addition to Amazon and iRobot.

Watch this space for more information on this revolutionary agreement and its ramifications. With the new deadline of February 14, 2024, rapidly approaching, the business community will intently observe this merger to see how it plays out and ultimately affects the market.
