The EU ambassador to China praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Tuesday and called for more peace efforts.
Kyiv desired Zelenskiy’s hour-long meeting with Xi.
“We would like China to go further and help more to reach a just peace, which involves Russian troops withdrawing from Ukraine,” Jorge Toledo Albinana said during a Beijing news conference.
According to state media, Xi assured Zelenskiy that China would send special officials to Ukraine and seek peace with all parties during their call.
Albinana expected major trade, economy, digital, and environment meetings between EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and Chinese foreign minister Qin Gang this year.
Albinana dismissed Borrell’s Taiwan Strait allegations.
In a Journal du Dimanche piece, Borrell asked European navies to safeguard the Strait.
Albinana said, “I think he grossly exaggerated.”
“Taiwan concerns us economically, commercially, and technologically,” Borrell said.
