On Monday, Britain’s antitrust authority said it was investigating whether Électricité de France SA (EDF.PAplanned )’s acquisition of General Electric Co.’s nuclear steam generation division may harm competition.

Before launching a formal inquiry, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) requested early comments from interested parties on the deal’s UK impact.

While France sought multibillion-dollar investments in new reactors, state-owned EDF announced intentions to buy a General Electric nuclear turbine unit last year.

The Boston-based global business General Electric Company (GE) was formed in 1892 in New York state.
Its sectors include aviation, electricity, renewable energy, digital industry, additive manufacturing, venture capital, and finance.

In 2020, GE was the 33rd largest US company by gross sales in the Fortune 500.
GE was the 14th most profitable Fortune 20 business in 2011, but its profitability fell, underperforming the market by 75%.
