Duke Energy begins Florida floating solar pilot

Duke Energy Corp (DUK.N) announced Thursday that its Florida business would begin building a 1-megawatt floating solar array pilot in Polk County later this month.

It claimed the pilot would use over 1,800 floating solar panels on 2 acres of water at the company’s Hines Energy Complex in Bartow.

The Solar Energy Industries Association says 1 Megawatt of solar power has 173 houses.

Duke increased its five-year capital plan to $65 billion last month, focusing 80% on low-carbon energy. More

The energy company’s electricity and gas utilities serve over 8 million companies and residences in the Carolinas, sections of Florida, and the Midwest and own roughly 50,000 MW of energy capacity.
