Drake’s Toronto Estate in Headlines: Security Guard Shot Amid Kendrick Lamar Controversy
Toronto police reported that a security guard was shot outside the residence of Canadian rapper Drake overnight amid an escalating feud with US rap rival Kendrick Lamar. The incident occurred around 02:00 EDT (06:00 GMT) on Tuesday at Drake’s mansion at the corner of Park Lane Circle.
According to police, suspects in a vehicle fired shots at the security guard before fleeing the scene. It remains unclear whether Drake was present at the time of the shooting or if he was the intended target. Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force stated that they are in contact with Drake’s team, who are cooperating with the investigation. However, he cautioned that it is too early to determine a motive for the shooting.
Authorities are evaluating video footage capturing the incident, although details are being withheld due to issues with video quality. The victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the chest, is currently hospitalized in serious condition.
The shooting comes amidst a highly publicized feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, characterized by a series of “diss tracks” exchanged between the two prominent figures in the hip-hop industry. Notably, Drake’s residence in Toronto’s upscale Bridle Path neighborhood is the cover art for Lamar’s song “Not Like Us.”
Photos circulating online depict Drake’s property cordoned off with caution tape as police investigate. The BBC has contacted representatives of both artists for further comment on the incident.
