Late Tuesday, two sources informed Reuters that Colombia’s leftist President Gustavo Petro had asked his cabinet members to resign owing to delays and opposition to his health reform.
Several ministries and Petro’s communications department didn’t immediately respond to reshuffle rumors.
Congress and Petro’s allies reject his health reform.
“I think the government should declare itself in an emergency,” Petro said Tuesday evening.
“That means government teams are working day and night” to lower food prices, give land to needy farmers, and foster peace.
There was no reorganization.
Since Petro took office nine months ago, his ministers, notably Minister of Mines and Energy Irene Velez, have been fiercely attacked.
Petro has backed his colleagues, including Velez, although education minister Alejandro Gaviria leftover health reform.
According to a government source, Interior Minister Alfonso Prada may become defense minister. However, Velez and others may stay, the person said.
