Since its founding a little over five years ago, Realme, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has shipped over 200 million phones, most of which have been sold outside of China. According to statistics, Realme was the fifth-fastest smartphone producer to reach this milestone.

Realme, owned by BBK Electronics, a massive Chinese consumer electronics company that also owns the Oppo and Vivo brands, said it had crossed the $200 million milestone in the second quarter.

Only four firms have shipped the same number of units faster: Vivo, Huawei (HWT.UL), Samsung (005930. KS), and Apple (AAPL.O), according to data from market analytics company Counterpoint Research. Just 14 businesses worldwide have supplied more than 200 million phones so far.

“We started out when there were more than 700 smartphone brands worldwide,” Realme’s chief marketing officer, Xu Qi, stated. “We are extremely proud that we have been able to be in the world’s top 10 brands for the past five years.”

In 2017, there were over 700 phone brands; by September, that number had dropped to roughly 250, according to Counterpoint Research.

According to Xu, Realme is prepared to compete with high-end smartphones with the debut of the Realme GT 5 Pro, which will be one of the first devices to sport Sony’s new Lytia camera sensor, and Qualcomm’s most recent high-end CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Xiaomi (1810. HK) has just unveiled the Xiaomi 14 Pro, which uses the most recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.
