On Thursday, China’s navy said it watched and expelled a U.S. warship that unlawfully entered Paracel Islands waters.
The military alleged the guided-missile destroyer USS Milius violated China’s territorial seas, disrupting the busiest canal.
“The theater forces will maintain a high level of readiness at all times and take all necessary measures to resolutely protect national sovereignty and security and peace and stability in the South China Sea,” said China’s Southern Theatre Command spokesperson Tian Junli.
The U.S. Navy said Thursday that the warship was not evicted and was performing “regular operations” in the South China Sea.
U.S. Navy 7th Fleet stated, “The United States will continue to fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows.”
The US-China relationship is deteriorating.
The U.S. has been strengthening alliances in the Asia-Pacific to fight China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait.
