On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that the U.S. may ban A.I. chip exports to China.
Nvidia (NVDA.O) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) (AMD.O) declined more than 2% and 1.5%, respectively, in extended trading.
The report said the Commerce Department would cease shipping Nvidia and other chip firms’ chips to Chinese consumers in July.
Nvidia, Micron, and AMD are U.S. chipmakers ensnared in China-Biden tensions.
Nvidia claimed in September that U.S. officials requested the company to cease shipping two key A.I. computing processors to China.
To comply with export controls, Jensen Huang’s Nvidia announced it would sell the A800 in China months later. To comply with requirements, the business updated its flagship H100 microprocessor early this year.
According to the article, the department’s proposed restrictions would prohibit selling even A800 chips without a U.S. export license.
The Commerce Department did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
