A foreign ministry official told a press briefing on Monday that China strongly opposes India’s home minister’s travel to Arunachal Pradesh, which violates Beijing’s territorial sovereignty.
China has renamed various localities in India’s eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims.
“Zangnan is China’s territory,” spokeswoman Wang Wenbin said when asked about Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit.
“The Indian official’s visit to Zangnan breaches China’s territorial sovereignty and disrupts border tranquillity.”
China and India have clashed over the disputed boundary in hilly places in recent years, straining relations.
