After receiving backing from former President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, she became the Democratic Party nominee this week.

Former California lawyer Harris, 59, might be the first woman and African American-Indian White House candidate.

Democrats’ terrible trend may not be stopped by Harris, experts say.

Biden got out as polls suggested he was losing Black voters. Their assistance was crucial to his 2020 success.

That election, 87% of Black voters supported Biden. However, a May Pew Research research of Black voters revealed that only 77% would vote for Biden over Trump if they were running for president.

How many Blacks have voted Democratic?

Black voters have favored Democrats since the mid-20th century. Exit polls showed 95% support for Barack Obama’s 2008 triumph.

Black voting data is available from the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. Roosevelt received 71% of the Black vote in 1936, but 1932 data is unavailable.

Black communities fully supported Roosevelt’s New Deal to reduce inequality after the Great Depression.

Truman, Roosevelt’s Democrat successor, integrated the military in 1948. As a result, white segregationists like Strom Thurmond joined the GOP.

Later Democratic leaders like John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson campaigned on civil rights. This helped them gain Black support in the 1960s. For instance, the 1964 Civil Rights Act changed how Black people view the Democratic Party.

Aren’t Republicans Lincoln’s party?

Republicans are linked to Abraham Lincoln. Republican president Lincoln led the Civil War.

The 15th Amendment, passed by Lincoln in 1870, allowed all male citizens of any race the right to vote.

After the Civil War, Jim Crow laws made voting tougher for Black people due to unjust rules.

Johnson, a Democrat, challenged race discrimination in the 1964 Civil Rights Act to ensure voting.

Does the number of Black Democrats vary over time?

Johnson won 94 percent of the Black vote in 1964 because he campaigned for civil rights.

When Arkansas Democratic Governor Bill Clinton defeated Republican President George H.W. Bush in 1992, 83% of black voters voted for Clinton.

In 2020, 87% of blacks supported Democrats. Recent polls suggest that only 77% of Black voters support the party, indicating that some are leaving.

How many Blacks will vote for Trump?

May’s Pew Research poll indicated 18% of Black registered voters leaning toward Trump.

Trump received only 12% of Black votes in 2020. A 50% increase.

However, Biden has left the race since that research. However, Harris’s Democratic nomination has not increased Black voter turnout.

The New York Times and Siena College poll from July 22 to 24 found that 19% of Black Americans would vote for Trump.

About 72% of respondents supported Harris.

That differs from a July 2 New York Times-Siena College poll. Black registered voters backed Biden 73% to Trump 15%.

Can Kamala Harris prevent worse damage?

Harris has revived Democratic enthusiasm, especially among Black voters. This is evidenced by consistent funding.

Last month, Win With Black Women leaders held a Zoom call to support Harris. The call attracted about 44,000 participants, largely women. Within three hours, the organization raised almost $1.5 million.

In the same week, almost 53,000 Black men joined the Win With Black Men virtual conference to support Harris. The event’s organizers reported raising almost $1.3 million in four hours.

Democratic presidential candidate Harris raised $200 million in her first week, according to her campaign. 66% of the donations have come from first-time presidential donors. July saw $310 million raised by Harris.
