Brittany Canty is a developer and product manager who quit her job to start Comfort Eats. She worked for almost 10 years with big tech companies before the idea of snacks and travel loomed in. Britany Canty wants to bring comfort snacks to people at their homes or when traveling.

Comfort Eats idea was born from my personal experience while I was in New Zealand. I had gone to visit my friend’s family that had allocated themselves to New Zealand from Chicago. On many occasions, I had to pack my items without forgetting snacks. But on many occasions, she could miss out because I consumed them on my way. While on the plane, I realized how the passengers struggled to get those snacks. Something hit my mind when I struggled once sending hr birthday snacks. I looked for the online market only to find one website which offered the service. That’s when I identified the gap market.

On a typical day, I would package orders from around 7:00 am. At some point, I add new products to the shop. Product update activities take around 7-10 consecutive days. We have to look for customers’ requirements, preferences, locations, and suggestions. Also, getting the ad’s feedback is my daily task. In the evening, I will sit down with my team to get recommendations on what we need to do to improve our brand.

Luckily, I have a co-founder with whom we turn our ideas into real-world solutions. She has been my loyal friend for a long time, so we know how to put things together. Furthermore, she is a creative designer, having the capability to change what is in my mind to a real solution.

When it comes to trends, I love the fact that people are going back to their culture. I have noticed that through Comforts Eat. When we started, we only thought of Americans as our customers, but we have had a lot of clients from different nations. I am working towards expanding my company globally. Since my childhood, I have always felt the need for people to understand other communities’ cultures. The best way is through offering different foodstuffs.

I believe my experience as a product manager has had a positive impact on my current company. Managing difficult products and projects makes your mind think deeper. So when it comes to managing my startup, I employ easier solutions. Through my to-do list, I make sure I set a daily goal and achieve it. This makes me remain focused on my job.

To my younger self, trust the process. As a young person, there are 1000 insecurities and pressures while setting something up. If you don’t be bold to fight back, they develop into your adulthood. I believe everyone is gifted uniquely. Follow what you like doing and never listen to negative voices.

For all entrepreneurs, I recommend putting self-care as a priority. What works for me might be different for you. After a hectic day, I will have a slice of the pie. Sometimes I will turn off my phone for approximately 3 hours to watch a movie or read a romance novel.

Having an ear to the customer’s suggestions and complaints have been the strategy to grow my startup. Before we launch a new food snack, we have to involve the final user to get feedback. A continuous process of hearing what they say becomes a habit. We rectify where possible.

As Brittany Canty, a software developer, I hate many software. But on my daily occasions, Trello is my favorite. It’s a task management system that one can customize depending on the needs. Before the day ends, I have to prioritize 2 activities for the next day. This helps me to focus on my goals.

I don’t read business books, but I would recommend “Necessary Ending” to my fellow humans. It talks about humanity and the use of available time. The book that helped was a key transformation that made me choose Comfort Eats over my job. In addition, it acts as a reminder when I go array with my mental health.

“Don’t be afraid of failure; be afraid of an unlived life”, I do walk with this quote daily. From high school, I grasped the line and I can’t remember where I read it. But it reminds me that we only live once, and therefore we have to spend the available time maximumly. If you want something, always yearn and follow it. You can always find me on all social media as Brittany Canty.
