Britain will send seven Royal Navy ships with undersea cables to patrol areas. In a statement released on Thursday, the United Kingdom said it will send seven ships from the Royal Navy and a marine patrol aircraft to participate in Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) patrols of regions with critical underwater infrastructure in the next month.

Europe and NATO’s concern over the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in the area surrounding and beneath the Baltic Sea has continuously increased. Security in the High North, North Atlantic, and Baltic Sea regions is the primary emphasis of the Joint European Force (JEF), a military alliance of ten nations from northern Europe.

According to Sweden, a Baltic Sea telecom cable that connects Sweden and Estonia was built around the same time as a pipeline and cable to connect Finland and Estonia, which reported the incident last month. Following the explosions in September 2022, which caused the Nord Stream pipelines to burst beneath the Baltic Sea and cut off Europe’s supply of Russian gas, this subsequent event occurred.

“The UK and our JEF partners will do whatever it takes to defend our mutual areas of interest, and today’s display of unshakeable unity sends a powerful message of deterrence that we stand ready to meet any potential threat with force,” according to British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps.

The United Kingdom has said that it will “patrol areas most vulnerable to interference, conduct surveillance operations, and act as a deterrent force against potential threats” by contributing six warships from the Royal Navy, a ship from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and a maritime patrol aircraft from the Royal Air Force to the Joint Expeditionary Force deployment.

It was also said that vessels would be spaced apart to cover a large region, ranging from the Channel to the Baltic Sea.
