Blinken will travel to Israel and the West Bank in a week-long Gaza diplomacy push—State Dept. According to State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, top U.S. diplomat Antony Blinken will leave on Thursday for a week-long diplomatic mission regarding Israel’s Gaza war. Blinken will visit Israel and the West Bank, as well as Turkey, Greece, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, during his trip.
The visit takes place amid increased worries that the conflict, which has been going on for almost three months, is moving beyond Gaza and into the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Hezbollah troops in Lebanon, and maritime channels in the Red Sea.
At a routine news briefing, Miller stated that Blinken will go over concrete actions that stakeholders in the area may take to stop the crisis from worsening.
“It is in no one’s interest—not Israel’s, not the region’s, not the world’s—for this conflict to spread beyond Gaza,” Miller stated.
Miller continued, “Blinken would also address efforts to bring home the remaining hostages taken by Hamas and immediate steps to increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza.”
