Egg shortages have forced the fast food chain to cut morning operations.
Fans of late morning McDonald’s breakfast in Australia must get up early.
With an egg scarcity owing to a bird flu epidemic, the fast food chain has cut its breakfast service by 90 minutes nationwide.
Its complete breakfast menu is now served till 10:30am instead of lunchtime.
“Like many retailers, we are carefully managing egg supply due to industry challenges,” McDonald’s Australia told reporters.
“We’re continuing to work closely with our network of Aussie farmers, producers, and suppliers, as the industry comes together to manage this challenge.”
Southeast Australia has seen several bird flu viruses at 11 poultry plants in the previous two months.
Authorities say they’re in charge.
“Consumers can expect to see some empty shelves in the short-term, however, supplies are being re-directed to areas with short supply,” the government stated.
“Consumers should refrain from purchasing more eggs than required.”
Bird flu has infected less than 10% of Australia’s egg-laying hens, although some firms have limited egg sales.
The outbreaks forced 1.5m Australian chickens to be culled.
No H5N1 bird flu strains have been found.
H5N1 has infected billions of birds and mammals and a few people.
