On Friday, President Joe Biden indicated he will declare his re-election campaign “relatively soon.”

“We’ll disclose it shortly. “But the trip here just reinforced my optimism about what can be done,” Biden told reporters after an emotional trip to Ireland. “I told you I plan to run again.”

The 80-year-old Democrat, one of the oldest international presidents, has long stated he will seek re-election, but the absence of an official declaration has occasionally jittered fans.

However, close aides and allies have already begun setting up a campaign infrastructure and fundraising apparatus ahead of a 2024 bid that could be a rematch with Republican ex-president Donald Trump, who has launched his campaign.

Biden is anticipated to “finish the job” following a first term that included billions of dollars in government funding for the COVID-19 epidemic and infrastructure.

However, Biden’s age makes his re-election effort a historic and hazardous bet for the Democratic Party, which is in the minority in the House and confronts a challenging Senate election map in 2024. Biden’s popularity ratings are in the mid-40s, and he would be 86 by the conclusion of a second term, nine years older than the average U.S. male life expectancy.

After a February test, Biden was deemed “fit for duty” by doctors. The White House claims he is psychologically fit for the job.
